Day by Day Itinerary
Day 1
LILLAFURED / HUNGARY
Meet your driverguide in the lobby of your hotel at 9:00am. Your first stop in Pan nonhalma to visit Hungary’s oldest building, the Pannonhalma Abbey. Its Library consists of over 300,000 volumes & more than 70 codices from the 11th century. We continue to Györ, where Napoleon spent a night in 1809. After a walking tour (Carmelite Church, Cathedral, Széchenyi Square) arrive at Hotel Klastrom in Győr for dinner and overnight. (D)
Day 2
TARCAL / HUNGARY
After breakfast at the hotel drive to the Lake Balaton, the most popular holiday resort in the country. In Keszthely - the region’s oldest town - visit the Baroque Palace of the noble Festetich family. Continue through the serene countryside to Pécs- the most romantic city in Hungary’s Transdanubia region. Later, we recom mend visiting the museums of the famous painters Vásárely or Csontváry and the sculptor Amerigo Tot or explore the creations of the celebrated Zsolnay porcelain factory. Dinner & overnight in Pécs, Hotel Istvan Kiraly or similar. (B,D)
Day 3
SIMONTORNYA / HUNGARY
Breakfast at the hotel. Morning tour of Pécs features the former mosque, which is Hungary’s largest monument from the Turkish age, Cathedral, All Saint’s Church & Mosque of Jakovali Hassan. Continue to Kalocsa , land of the “red gold”, better known as the paprika. Walking tour of the Archiepiscopal Palace . Your next stop is Kecskemét. Walking tour of the city. (Town Hall Kodály Institute, Calvinist Church, Cifra Palace, Town Hall). End your day in Lajosmizse with a typical Hungarian dinner with wine & gypsy music in a Csárda in nearby Lajosmizse. Over night at the Gerebi Mansion. (B,D)
Day 4
Balatonfüred / HUNGARY
After breakfast Drive through the picturesque Mátra Mountains, site of Hungary’s highest peak (Kékes, 3039 ft.). Continue to Lillafured for a relaxing day in the nature. Dinner and overnight in Lillafüred, Kastelyszallo (B,D)
Day 5
Hédervár / HUNGARY
Leave Lillafured after breakfast and proceed to Eger, famous for its wine and legendary resistance to the invading Turks and Hapsburgs. Walking tour of historic Eger (Minaret, Castle, County Hall, Cathedral). Continue to Budapest via Gödöllö, a favorite summer retreat of the Hapsburgs. Visit of the Baroque Grassalkovich Palace. Arrive in Budapest in the early evening hours (B)
